Appointment of New Directors – May 2026

Outward Bound International (OBI) is seeking to appoint additional Directors to serve on the OBI Board. The initial appointment will be for one year, followed by a three-year term. We plan to develop a pool of interested, qualified candidates and appoint two to four new Directors this year. We will be open to “expressions of interest” until 30th June, 2026.

We are looking for Directors with appropriate experience or professional expertise in the following areas:

• Legal/ Governance
• Human Resources
• Marketing and Communications
• Media and Public Relations
• Information technology/digital
• Fundraising
• Finance and Accounting
• Sustainability
• International relationships/outlook
• Risk Management

Importantly, candidates must have a genuine commitment to Outward Bound and have demonstrated the values and ethos of Outward Bound throughout their adult life. Previous experience with Outward Bound, as a Board member of one of the Schools in the network, as an instructor or administrator, or as a student, would be useful but is not essential. We are seeking to build a diverse Board that is broadly representative of the worldwide Outward Bound Network. However, appointments will be made on merit.  

The role is voluntary. Board members will need to pay their own travel for meetings (usually two per annum at different international locations) or find a sponsor. OBI does not pay any compensation for the time Board members spend on OBI Board activities. Participation in Board meetings is critical, and interested applicants must have schedule flexibility that will allow for the time and travel necessary to attend.
