Managing Risk
At Outward Bound International we take Risk Management seriously. Our licensing system is designed to confirm that member Schools have appropriate and sustainable systems for overseeing and managing risks for their participants, staff, and the environments in which they operate.
Through ongoing monitoring and review, we continue to support our members in the implementation and development of their systems and operating procedures.
Students are deliberately encouraged to take part in activities that involve unfamiliar risks that are not part of their normal life. As an educational organization, our members use perceived and real risks as teaching tools to enhance learning and self-confidence. Learning to manage risk is an integral part of the training and experiential process of the Outward Bound learning model.
