New York City Outward Bound Center is a one-of-a-kind center whose goal it is to effect positive and lasting change in the lives of the city's young people. Programs include those that enable academically challenged youth to learn how to enjoy reading and writing, comprehensive school reform, targeted school programs, professional development programs for educators, organizational development programs for schools and non-profit organizations, adventure programs for youth, and after-school and summer programs. Activities are run year-round and include ropes courses, sailing, canoeing, hiking (urban and wilderness), academic studies, service projects, rock climbing and cultural immersions.
