Since 1967, North Carolina Outward Bound School has been serving youth and adults throughout the Southeast with programs that challenge and inspire. The School offers 4- to 78-day-long wilderness courses for individuals and shorter custom-tailored wilderness or community-based programs for businesses through Outward Bound Professional. North Carolina Outward Bound also has a growing emphasis on integrating experiential education with traditional academics and strives to work closely with schools and groups to accomplish that goal.

Programs include backpacking, climbing and whitewater canoeing through some of the most rugged sections of the Appalachian Mountains. Sea kayaking takes participants through hundreds of undeveloped islands in Florida and the Bahamas or along the shallow coast of North Carolina Outer Banks. Further south, North Carolina Outward Bound offers mountaineering and international semester courses in the glaciated and densely forested Patagonia region.

The School's Atlanta Center extends Outward Bound philosophy and methodology into the urban area. The Center's goal is to create lasting change in the lives of Atlanta's youth through challenging, experiential learning that embodies the key values of Outward Bound. Wilderness courses in the NC Mountains paired with follow-up urban programs offer unique and powerful experiences for Atlanta youth.
